My 12 year old son and 11 year old daughter got lost in the woods last night. They left for a bike ride around 7:45 and by 8:20, I noticed it was starting to get dark.
I immediately thought something was wrong and hopped in the van to go find them-mother instinct I guess (Hubby and youngest son were out on a date). (You should have seen me drive that van in the mud on that dirt road-maniac!) I went down quite a ways, but never saw them. I did determine which direction they went due to the bike tracks (It divides into a "Y").
I raced back to the house to see if they were back yet, but they weren't. Todd was back then. He went after them and took the cell.
I stayed home and prayed. By this time it was dark out. I was asking God to strengthen me, to help them keep warm and not be scared, etc. Todd drove down the road all the way to the friend's house that we suspected they were aiming for to see if he could spot them there, but no one. He then continued on down the dirt road as far as he could go.
I called my dad to join the search. I was on the verge of calling the police when I got a call from him. Dad had come around the back way and saw the kids walking on the road. He picked them up and brought them home.
They had decided to walk to a friend's house, but got lost. They ditched the bike which was too difficult to drag through the woods and the marsh. They finally found their way out onto the road. They were soaking wet up to the knees and crying.
What an ordeal! So glad they are safe. They won't be doing that anytime soon.(They won't be going anywhere alone for a looong time!) The youngest said, "I don't ever want to walk on that road again." lol
God is merciful.

So glad that they are safe! Thank the Lord for that. I can imagine the great relief (from everyone) when they were found again!!
Most certainly! We are still processing the scare it gave us, but relieved to have them still with us.
